Listen to This

Boston Harbor Distillery, 2R Ericsson St,, Dorchester, MA 02122

Listen to This uses a Ouija board to coax the punk-ass ghost of 1969-75 electric Miles Davis to roam the halls. Rick Barry’s percussion lays down ghostly footprints and the sound of skittering creatures in the walls. Todd Brunel’s bass clarinet wails exotically out on the moors. Bryan Murphy’s trumpet jumps out of the shadows with a sharp blade and slinks back into the gloom to calm you for his next attack. Russ Gershon and Dave Bryant surround the sound in an organ and Fender Rhodes patched lightning storm from opposite sides of the stage. Gershon draws on his arsenal of tenor, soprano and flute to implement the band’s strategy. Band instigator Jerome Deupree's drums and Rick McLaughlin's bass keep everyone on the grooves. Last, but way not least, is J. Johnson on aggressive, inconsolable, guitar. Listen to This fill the room with hot blue sparks and a primeval, funked-up Vibe, the element which pushes a good show to greatness…a brilliant flash of improvisation, beyond genre, the ghost of a ghost who shows up out of nowhere and just hangs out..." – John Keegan
